About “Let’s start a Volunteer-Camp Archive” in Hamburg-Neuengamme, Germany
The SCI Germany invites Indonesian youth to participate in the Volunteer and Study Camp in Hamburg-Neuengamme, Germany on August 2026 titled “Let’s Start a Volunteer-Camp Archive”. The volunteer camp offers a unique volunteering experience where an international group of young volunteers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and beyond at the Neuengamme Memorial near Hamburg will take part in a meaningful experience of learning, exchange, and solidarity.
The Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial is an international place of remembrance, education, and research, located on the grounds of a former largest Nazi concentration camp. Today, it invites visitors to engage critically with the history of persecution and injustice, while reflecting on how this past connects to present-day social and political questions, as well as how it helps promoting human rights.
On the other hand, the participants will give support to the the work of the memorial, for example by cleaning information boards and memorials or carrying out gardening work on the grounds. Additionally, the program also includes workshops, guided visits, and discussions about the history of National Socialism and the concentration camp system. Furthermore, the participants will meet members of the “second generation” of former prisoners and reflect together on how remembering the past helps us challenge racism, injustice, and discrimination in today’s world.
Later on, participants from different countries and backgrounds will share perspectives, learn from each other, and research the history of international volunteer camps that have taken place in Neuengamme since 1982. Participants will also document their experiences and reflections on the memorial’s social media channels.
Now, GREAT is to recruit two volunteers as candidates, to take a further selection process.
General Objectives of the Project:
1. To learn about an important part of world history, and contribute to building a more just and peaceful future.
2. To supports the work of the memorial, for example by cleaning information boards and memorials or carrying out gardening work on the grounds.
3. To deepen the mutual knowledge and understanding between organizations.
4. To build international friendship among the volunteers.
5. To experience international voluntary service abroad.

Requirements:
1. GREAT member. If you are not a member, contact us here.
2. Age 18 – 26 years old.
3. Have a passport ready and valid at least until March 2027 or later. Please note: applicants without submitting a copy of passport will not be considered.
4. Have volunteering experience, preferably with GREAT.
5. Familiar with the work and the activities of GREAT as sending organization
6. Willing to regularly communicate with SCI Germany and GREAT during the preparation stage.
7. High motivation and interest in the antiracism, antifascism, and remembrance topics.
8. High interest in taking part actively during the volunteer camp, including the daily chores.
9. Preferably fluent in spoken and written English.
10. Open-minded, good teamwork, respect others, and willing to learn something new.
11. Committed to do the assignment plan, from the pre-during-post project.
12. Prepared for physical work in the nature of the mentioned grounds.
The Project Covers:
⇒ Accommodation and food during the project.
⇒ Activity insurance during the volunteer camp according to the SCI insurance scheme.
⇒ Supporting documents from sending and hosting organization to apply for visa.
⇒ Travel grant up to 500€ as reimbursement on volunteers arrival at the project site.
The Project DOES NOT Covers:
1. Passport fee
2. All travel costs (international flights, local transport)
3. Additional travel insurance cost, if applicable
4. Visa cost
5. Personal medications
6. Personal expenses and pocket money
7. Commitment fee (GREAT will refund this to volunteers after they complete the project, submit a report and finish all assignments on time)
8. Organizational support fee/inscription Fee (for GREAT to support non-funded activities which are not related to any funded program; e.g organizational events, international networking, and promotional tools development)
9. Possible health protocol costs may appear related to COVID-19 policy (or other diseases if applicable) in sending or hosting country.
10. Any cancellation costs, if applicable.
Terms and Conditions:
1. The activity will be conducted entirely in English.
2. The project is partially funded with a travel grant up to 500€ with reimbursement system on volunteers arrival at the project site.
3. Volunteers will bear all other costs, please read again the part above: what the project covers and the project does not cover.
4. Selected candidates must pay:
⇒ Commitment fee IDR 1.500.000 to GREAT (to be paid not later than April 22nd)
⇒ Organizational Support Fee IDR 2.500.000 to GREAT (to be paid not later than April 22nd)
5. Selected candidate is ready to do pre, during, and post assignments of the project that supports GREAT activities.
6. Selected candidate agrees to sign a legal agreement with GREAT carrying pre-during-post assignment of the project.
7. Fully attend the Pre Departure Training with GREAT (time and place to be confirmed).
8. The applicants must send the following documents:

10. GREAT will only contact short-listed candidates for interview selection on the 7th of April 2026.
11. Interview schedule will be announced only to the short-listed candidates.
The Assignment Plan (related to point 5 above):
Obligatory:
⇒ Pre-project
√ Pre-Departure Training with GREAT (time and place to be confirmed)
⇒ During the project
√ Send pictures and videos of departure and during projects regularly to the GREAT staff
√ Post, tag and mention GREAT social media when posting documentation related to this project
√ Communicate regularly with GREAT staff during the project
⇒ Post project
√ Submit a report of participation at the latest 3 working days after arrival at Indonesia, and:
Optional (you may add to pre/during/post project phase of the project above):
√ Join one international or bilateral work camp as a participant
√ Join one international or bilateral work camp as camp leader in remaining work camps within 2026, including must join the Training for Camp Leader
√ Support the promotional activities online/offline with GREAT staffs September-December 2026
√ Other contribution are welcome.
