About Group Work Camp in Akame, Japan

Group Work Camp in Akame is a special part of an international short term volunteering project with GREAT, where it is served as a bilateral work camp with the participants come from 2 countries and/or nationalities with similar background. Also, the project takes place in Indonesia or abroad with specific theme designed project.

This year, GREAT cooperates with Afkaaruna Islamic School of Yogyakarta to conduct together a Group Work Camp in the Akame no Satoyama wo Sodateru Kai Conservation Corps, Nabari, Japan. Additionally, we are happy to be hosted by our longtime international partner, NICE Japan.

Aiming to the success of the project, therefore GREAT is to select one of its experienced volunteers to represent GREAT Indonesia as sending organization and to take part in the mentioned program above as the Group Leader of the Group Work Camp in Akame, Japan.

Aims:

1. To do forest maintenance by manual work and to learn environmental issue in Japan
2. To motivate the participants to define their own future
3. To support work in the Akame no Satoyama wo Sodateru Kai Conservation Corps.
4. To conduct personal research of each participants
5. To exchange culture between participants, local people & local participants

Voluntary Activities:

Physical Activities: Volunteers are expected to support manual work such as cutting and carrying trees, making footpath in mountain, helping mushroom farmers, and taking care of free-range raised chickens. Beside those physical activities, volunteers will also have additional activities with the local people, such as cleaning the environment.
Non-physical Activities: Japanese language class, educational games, school visit, intercultural night etc.

Group Leader Assignments:

1. Facilitate outdoor/indoor activities: e.g. group discussion, presentation of participants for topics related to: international culture, peace, life skills programs following the designated project.
2. Run a variety of small and large group activities from/for participants, encourage participants, participation, and provide information to participants regarding the activities; assisting in maintaining program and attendance records incident reports.
3. Use knowledge and experience to your own activities to develop the method.
4. Inspire participants to become change makers & peace builder.
5. Serving as a positive role model for youth.
6. Dealing with problems and emergency situations if any arises.
7. Mediate disputes and resolve conflicts within the team.
8. Attending meetings scheduled throughout the programs from preparation to returning to Indonesia.
9. Foster a positive environment and productive atmosphere to keep team performance on track.
10.Responsible for the safety of participants and report any issues or problems to Camp Director.
11.Gather and submit documentation of the project.
12.Submit report and write article to GREAT after the project.
13.Perform other duties aiming to the success of the project.
14.Maintain communication and coordination between sending organization, hosting organization and the school.

Duration: 12 days

Dates: 29^th September – 10^th October 2025

Group leader qualification as follows:

1. Work camp leader experience with GREAT Indonesia in the past 3 years.
2. Hold a valid passport with the expiry date not later than April 2026.
3. Active member of GREAT Indonesia.
4. Available to attend fully all steps of the project (pre-during-post project).
5. Available to present her/himself during the visa application in Jakarta (around end of July-early August 2025).
6. Experienced in traveling abroad, preferably in Japan.
7. Fluent in English, preferably speaking basic Japanese.
8. Capable in promoting GREAT as an IVS NGO during the open event and school visit in Japan.
9. Good understanding on project cycle management in GREAT and our project sites.
10. Good physical endurance.
11. Good in interpersonal communication and public speaking.
12. Experience in managing group of minimum 10 people, especially with teenage group.
13. Have the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and to think and act creatively on the go.
14. Committed to carry out the assignments above.

The Group Work Camp project in Akame, Japan is partially funded, check the terms and conditions below:

A. The project COVERS:

1. Meals and accommodation during and related to the project.
2. Round-trip international flight ticket.
3. Local transport in Indonesia and Japan during the project or/and related to the departure and arrival days.
4. Project participation fee

B. The project DOES NOT cover:

1. Sending fee which consists of organizational support fee and commitment fee.

Selected Group Leader is able to pay:

⇒ Organizational support fee: 1.500.000 IDR (non-refundable)
⇒ Commitment fee: 1.000.000 IDR (refundable when the Group Leader is proven has completed all assignments)
⇒ Deadline of payment to be confirmed

2. Visa application expenses (visa fee, visa service fee, visa transport fee).
3. Accident and health insurance.
4. Passport fee.
5. Personal medication.
6. Personal expenses during transit and project.
