About English Camp “Peacephoria” – Road to Cheng Ho Festival
The English Camp “Peacephoria” aims to introduce the concept of peace and youth. Next, it is also to promote the next international mini work camp to support the Cheng Ho Festival. The mini workcamp will take place on 1st-5th August 2019, in Semarang, Central Java.
Hence, GREAT is also calling both international and national volunteers to help us support the biggest festival in Semarang as participants in the mini work camp. In addition, volunteers of International Mini Work Camp will promote the heritage conservation through festival preparation work. Furthermore, the volunteers also will be the ambassador of peace during the Cheng Ho festival.

About Cheng Ho Festival
Cheng Ho Festival is an annual festival held by the Sam Poo Kong Foundation. It is to commemorate the arrival of Admiral Cheng Ho, who first built Sam Poo Kong temple foundations in the 15th centuries. The Admiral, elsewhere better known as Admiral Zheng He, was a muslim explorer from Mainland China. After some time, Cheng Ho left Java, but many of his crews decided to stay behind and settle in the area. They married with the locals, and till now, Simongan is inhabited by descendants of China.
The Sam Poo Kong Temple, also known as Gedung Batu (the Stone Building), is the oldest Chinese temple in Semarang, capital of the province of Central Java. Unlike most temples, the building does not belong to any specific religion. However, it rather functions as a place of worship for people of various ethnicity and religious groups including Buddhists, Taoists and muslims. Hence, the festival is not only a Chinese festival but also a celebration of peace and harmonious life in diversity.
Cheng Ho Festival this year will take place on the 3rd-4th August 2019. Hundreds of crews, consists of both volunteers and staffs of many organizations/institution will involve in it, including GREAT Indonesia.
