THEME: “The transformation of Character Education and Innovation in International Volunteering”

BACKGROUND and AIMS

IVS aims to pursue peace and be the catalyst for change within individuals and society, to help breakdown prejudices and stereotypes in a world of mutual respect and understanding.

It strengthens local and global civil society and promotes active participation and shared learning. IVS gives people the possibility to participate as an active member of society and work on a task which can benefit a community. Volunteers learn that through their active participation in IVS projects they can create change, furthermore, they experience enhanced self-confidence and strengthened personal competences, as it is defined in the White Paper on IVS “Global Strategies for Global Challenges” by CCIVS, 2011.

This is in line with GREAT vision which is “young generation is the agent of change toward global friendship and peace”. Along with this vision, we believe GREAT also contributes to Indonesia in preparing young people in facing Asean Economic Community. And last but not least, we definitely support the global effort in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, especially number 4 stated “ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning”.

GREAT has been cooperating with several universities in Indonesia to conduct an International Voluntary Service Seminar respectively in order to reach awareness of the youth movement benefits that actually everyone can get. This time will be for the students of UNNES Semarang, and particularly of International Undergraduate Programme (IUP) Department of Economics Education (DEE) Faculty of Economics Universitas Negeri Semarang.
